Interesting historic sites like these will keep theexcitement goingas you move across the Island. This island's main industry is raw oyster eating and fry oyster culture. Rape blossoms patch

Even though this is the smallest island and has fewer residents of all the Urato Islands, Hojima Island is a charming island with a lot of nature left. Rape blossoms are worth seeing in spring. There are several legends behind the origin of its name: It is said that the name Ho originates from mythological bird Houou (鳳凰Fenghuang) and it was also called Ho (烽) jima Island since there was a signaled beacon fire (烽火)in the past. It is also a legend that the Date Clan hid their munition money and treasures on this island in the Edo era, hence what once was called Hou (宝)jima Island became Ho (朴)jima Island. In such ways, Hojima is full of mysteries.

This island's main industry is fisheries with raw oyster and fry oyster cultures. The seeds of rape blossoms are shipped as seeds of "Matsushima Hakusai" as well.
